Most of these cinematic wonders were created from the year 2000 onwards, showcasing Malta’s irresistible allure to directors and producers alike. Below find a number of films filmed in Malta!
Gladiator (2000) and Gladiator 2 (2024)
Ah, Gladiator, the cinematic masterpiece that needs no introduction! This monumental film claimed 11 prestigious awards, including 5 glorious Oscars. As you explore Valletta, be sure to visit “The Pub,” a local establishment where the late Oliver Reed spent his time during filming. A piece of movie history resides within these walls. And if one wasn’t enough Malta can proudly boast of once again being the main filming site of Gladiator 2 and another of the many epic films filmed in Malta

The Count of Monte Cristo film (2002) and TV series (2024)
Prepare to be swept away by this timeless classic, inspired by Alexander Dumas’ iconic tale. Malta served as a stunning backdrop for this swashbuckling adventure. From the majestic Camino tower transformed into the formidable Château d’If, to the charming streets of Valletta doubling as Marseille, and the ancient beauty of Mdina masquerading as Venice, Malta adds its own touch of magic to this epic story.
However, whilst Malta featured briefly in 2002, we can proudly boast that most of the 2024 Count of Monte Cristo TV series starring Jeremy Irons was filmed in yours truly Malta! This series is defintely one my favourite films filmed in Malta!
Munich (2005)

Despite being Spielberg’s lowest-rated film, it received critical acclaim for its powerful storytelling. Keep an eye out for familiar Maltese locales, such as Sliema and Bugibba, and the charming balconies that adorn our island’s architecture.
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)

Heartthrob Brad Pitt graced our shores not only for “Troy” but also for “World War Z.” Additionally, he and his then-wife Angelina Jolie starred together in “By the Sea,” a movie filmed on the enchanting sister island of Malta, Gozo.
